I'm happy running my small plot of land and selling through the local certified farmer's market, but in the long term I'd like to expand and deliver boxes of goodies to people directly, on a weekly or bi monthly basis. Does anyone here use this kind of service?

I used a service like this when I lived in a different city. It was wonderful! We got a box once a month, and the produce was so fresh and delicious.

In order to get the word out, the owners ran a special. If you referred someone, you got one box free.

Before I started growing my own food, I used a service like this. It wasn't home-delivered though; we had to go to the farm to pick it up ourselves.
I buy from my local farmer's market because, although there are a few services like you mention in my area, they are forced to charge more due to the delivery costs. For those people who don't live near to a farmer's market, it's a great idea though.

Thanks for the replies. It's good to hear people have had positive experiences with this kind of service, I think it may well appeal to working families and maybe those without transport. It's hard to get to a local market without a car or similar.

Lacey, the bonus for a referral is a great idea. Thanks for that.

This is starting to become a common practice in most local communities here in Canada, more specifically the Maritimes. I do know from experience and fact that there are plenty of local farmers that are willing to implement this kind of practice. It will become more popular as time progresses down the path that it is now. People need to look after their own backyard before they start invading other countries to extract only what they want and leave the country in shambles. Support local it helps not only you health wise, but the local economy.
My parents have a service like this and they love it. I can't believe the great goodies they get! They also get some surprise items in the package they get, and they have a lot of fun coming up with creative new recipes with their goodies.
